Congratulations to our friend Joshua Gleis on the publication of his new book, Withdrawing Under Fire, Lessons Learned from Islamists Insurgencies. One of the problems with many of the wars and armed conflicts that our country and others have entered is that there was no focus on the exit strategy. Hence we are still in Iraq years after “Mission Accomplished” was declared. This is a particular issue when a country is battling an armed insurgency rather than a nation state. In his book Gleis focuses on Islamist insurgencies and proposes ways to combat these groups successfully and to disentangle one’s military forces from the war once strategic objectives have been met—or once it is clear that they cannot be.
The book is out on Amazon. We highly recommend it.
