The world celebrates today after U.S. intelligence operatives and Special Forces soldiers were successful in locating and killing Osama Bin Laden in a dramatic gun battle in Pakistan yesterday afternoon. Although he eluded capture for nearly a decade, the success of yesterday’s operation sends a clear message to terrorists everywhere–no matter how long it takes, the U.S. government will not stop searching for them. For however long they may live after they have attacked our citizens or our allies they will be looking over their shoulder, certain in the knowledge that they are being hunted.
Terrorism is difficult to combat, largely because terrorists have no country or capital. They attack and then disappear and could be anywhere around the globe. By sending the message that we will track them down and kill them, individually, our government has struck a blow to Al Qaeda’s morale and their attractiveness as an ally to other terrorist groups.
