Cyberattack on U.S. Defense Department

23-year-old unidentified British man has been arrested over a cyberattack in which data as stolen from the United States Department of Defense. Detective from the National Crime Agency of Britain detained this man Wednesday morning. They suspected he was linked to a hacking that took place back in June. The man had not been charged with anything.

The cyberattack caused data to be stolen from a messaging service used by Defense Department employees around the world. This included contact details for about 800 people, which consists of names, titles, email addresses, and phone numbers. According the agency they said “It also included device information for approximately 34,400 devices including IMEI number, which are the unique codes used to identify mobile device”.

Screenshots of the Defense Department system had also been posted online to prove that the cyberattack had been successful.
